Licensed Ribbons Software HP Executables

Last update: Oct 1, 2003

The HP (Compaq) port was made possible by the kindness of Angela Loh of Compaq, who provided a loaner machine. Richard Readings, a Compaq (DEC) engineer answered my questions and provided the fix for hardware stereo code. Thanks to Eric Bennett at Cornell for testing the distribution and the demo for Compaq at the 2001 ACA meeting in Los Angeles.
A description tells where to get all the required tools/libraries, fyi or if it doesn't just run out of the box.

Added a version 'alf40' for those who do not have the latest version of the OS (5.1). You must have at least version 4.0 to run the software.

You must have the required files of the Base Distribution, plus either the archive 'rib_alpha.tar.Z' or rib_alf40.tar.Z above. This is just the compressed archive of the ~ribbons/bin directory for Tru64 UNIX. You can unpack with the base distribution's *.csh script, or just (from RIBBONS_HOME):

 zcat rib_alpha.tar.Z | tar xvf -

I currently run version 3.6 under linux or windows.
You will need to get their distribution and "/include" subdirectories if you plan to do anything fancy. Got their Unix version and built on my Alpha machine to run under X. (a little painful without the linux-based tools.) Pretty sure I'm allowed to redistribute this by their license.
