Licensed Ribbons Software: Native Windows XP Executables
Last update: Aug 03, 2006
This is a pretty good native Windows version!
Just released Version 3.32 (Sept 2006), with only minor changes from 3.30.
Please report any problems!
Notes:
Functional differences between UNIX and PC versions:
Ribbons for NT was programmed by Jun Dai at the CMC in 1998, using Visual C++ and adhering to the standard PC style. I spent the first two months of 2005 cleaning up the program and making as much in common with the *unix* version as possible. More work is needed, especially in the way of examples, but the program is now pretty good...
- No scripting on PC.
- No wavelet MRC representations (yet) on PC.
- No *.orient files on PC (handeled differently).
- No *.color files on PC (handeled differently).
- No *.defaults files on PC (handeled differently, via '*.saved' files).
- Magic file "C:\Windows\Ribbons" handles global defaults on PC.
Problems with the PC version:
- Saving quality anti-aliased images seems exceedingly slow.
- The Preferences Panel is now fairly useless.
- The Facets Panel is flaky - suggest using 'ribbons-data'.
Ribbons for Windows - Aug 03, 2006:
You have two options:
(-ps, get and read "RibbonsReadMe.doc" for both)
Purely PC:
download only Ribbons.exe and Ribbons.hlp
It's a standalone Windows application with context-sensitive help. Highly recommend you get the demo.zip examples directory.
Full Ribbons:
download only Ribbons.zip (which contains the above and the demos)
It's a standalone Windows application with context-sensitive help, plus all the *unix* version 3.32 ribbons-data GUI data preparation utilities.
This also requires you to install Python2.4 (www.python.org), which has a simple Windows installer.
